The Beginning

For my Senior Project I decided to write my own book on Mixed Martial Arts and a set of Instructional videos to accompany it. So far, I have made contact with Eric Williams, a 3 time Brazilian Jui-Jitsu Champion, and the first BJJ black belt in Houston.
I am currently training with him and working on improving my skills. I can't claim to be an expert but the purpose of this project is to achieve mastery in an area of interest, for me that area is martial arts.
Through out the course of the year, I will continue working on my personal development but I will also work on passing some of that knowledge to others who might be interested as well. I look forward to begin my web portfolio online and posting my own website.

  1. That sounds like an interesting project and I would like to know how where you first introduced to Mixed Martial Arts and what was the reason that this sport interested you versus others? What is Mixed Martial Arts in reality and if it has any benefits?

  2. I like this idea. This kinda makes me want to change my project to something I want to master. It seems like a good project. I think it is extremely good that you are already in a way in the process and that you are in contact with Eric, your trainer. I think that it would be great if you were more specific. For example how are you going to do the videos and write the books? How are you going to get money for the books and videos. ?

  3. Well to respond to Tamar, I have to say that practicing martial arts has many benefits. Not only does it build up the body, but it also builds charcter. When a person trains to fight, it's not just about beating someone up but about finding yourself and who you really are. Also martial arts teach flexibility in both mind and body, they teach you how to adapt to unexpected situations and to deal with life. Martial Arts teach slef-discipline above all else.

To answer Cesar, I think the videos are going to be online, or maybe burned on to DVD's the book on the other hand seems like it might prove to be more of a challenge but I'm still thinking about it.

  4. Hmmm...What format will this book take? A "how to" book or is it more of a memoir of someone who evolves and grows as a fighter?

  5. Well I'm beggining to shift from the "How To" book because of my inability to learn much from them, so if I do write a book it might be more of a memoir.
